Apple Cider Vinegar Spiced Tea

A lot of times when we hear the word detox we think of something green yet not all detoxifying foods/substances have to be in that color range. So we decided to share a post of a wonderful detoxifying drink that may appeal to those of us who may be turned off by the idea that something good for us has to be green. This beverage is suggested to be consumed when warm or at room temperature. Of the variety of ingredients in it we chose to focus on the apple cider vinegar (ACV) component and its ability to detoxify!

While ACV has multiple beneficial uses our focus in this post is to highlight its ability to improve our digestive health since the majority of most dis ‘ease’ starts in the gut. ACV is a fermented liquid and when something is fermented that means that it contains beneficial bacteria called probiotics that break down the sugars in the apples and produce beneficial enzymes for our bodies that aid in the detoxification process.

As mentioned in our detox introduction this month, the liver is one of the key players when it comes to detoxification. ACV improves the integrity of this organ by way of improving our bile secretions. Bile is a substance our body produces that helps us to properly metabolize (breakdown) fats that we consume thus reducing stress on the liver. This is one reason it is great to consume ACV at least 20-30 minutes before a meal.

So when purchasing a beneficial source of ACV you want it to be raw, unfiltered and preferably organic. It should have a cloudy appearance. When it lacks that appearance and is clear (though it has an orange type hue) that means that it has been overly processed and lacks the beneficial bacteria mentioned above.

Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium,a mineral that is often lacking in adult diets and is key to growth, muscle building, transmission of nerve impulses, prevent fragile teeth and hair loss, and can relieve the feeling of tiredness and exhaustion produced by exercise and stress. Apple cider vinegar is effective as a cosmetic product for skin care in age spots, acne scars and warts. Dilute a part of apple cider vinegar with two parts water, and apply the mixture to the face with a cotton. Apple cider vinegar helps whiten teeth, remove stains and bacteria from the mouth and gums. To achieve this, gargle with apple cider vinegar mixed with water, or rub your teeth directly with apple cider vinegar, and rinse with water. For digestive or indigestion problems, drink some apple cider vinegar mixed with water. It is also effective for relieving sore throat thanks to its antibiotic properties. For hair care the apple cider vinegar balances the pH of the hair, leaving it softer and brighter. It can help against dandruff, fat buildup, and to soothe itching and scalp irritation. Simply mix one or two tablespoons in a glass of water and apply to the hair and leave it to act for a few minutes. Then rinse with your usual shampoo. You can use it several times a week. Apple cider vinegar reduces glucose levels, so it can be useful for diabetics. The effect of vinegar on blood sugar levels is perhaps the best documented and most promising of the possible health benefits of apple cider vinegar. In a 2007 study of 11 people with type 2 diabetes, he found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed reduces glucose levels in the morning from 4 -6.
